‘There are a lot of different reasons’ – England star hints at discontent with life at club level

Raheem Sterling’s comments while being interviewed in wake of England’s win over Croatia suggest discontent with life at Manchester City.

As England fans considered  who the eleven players would be that would get the nod to start against Croatia, few would have considered Sterling in the forward positions.

The Three Lions have a wealth of talent in that area, with Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish being left on the bench, and Jadon Sancho not even making the squad.

Yet, by finding the back of the net and scoring the winning goal of the game, Sterling justified his inclusion, a brilliant moment for the 26-year-old after a difficult season with Man City.

Raheem Sterling celebrates after scoring for England vs Croatia

Sterling has previously been considered among the best players in the Premier League, but his 2020/21 campaign was his worst since signing for Man City from Liverpool.

While he doesn’t specify the reasons behind his downturn in form, he does confirm that there are reasons for it, which suggest all may not be so rosy at the Etihad.

He’s quoted by the Daily Mail saying:

“There are a lot of different reasons I haven’t scored for my club and that’s totally irrelevant now.”

“I’m here with England, I’m enjoying my football and that’s the most important thing and I’m just happy to score.”

You wonder how this situation could develop when he returns to Manchester later in the summer.
