Portugal fans mock Franck Ribery after he was spotted in crowd at Nations League final following Cristiano Ronaldo claim

Fan footage from the Allianz Arena has gone viral, showing Franck Ribery appearing to be targeted by Portugal fans moments after Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the Nations League final.

In the build-up to the game, Ronaldo said that players need to win the Champions League to be in a strong position to win the Ballon d’Or.

Ribery was a key player in Bayern’s treble-winning side under Jupp Heynckes. He scored 22 goals and provided 18 assists, and also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. And yet he didn’t win this award.

The former French international tweeted on June 7, mocking Ronaldo’s comment – “So you need to win the Champions League to win the Ballon d’Or?”

Ribery felt that he should have won this award back in 2013.

“It’s the biggest injustice of my career,” he told L’Equipe, via Goal.

“Not only for me, for many people. I was on top and I finished 3rd. I had nothing to envy Ronaldo or Messi that year. I say it in all humility because it is the truth.”

Ribery made an appearance at the Allianz Arena to watch the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain.

Portugal have become the first team to win this competition twice after beating Spain on penalties.

Ronaldo equalised in the 61st minute to make it 2-2. It was the 138th goal of his international career.
