🚨 PGMOL release fresh statement following Michael Oliver red card controversy

Michael Oliver hit the headlines yesterday for his decision to send off Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Oliver gave the 18-year-old his marching orders when he caught Matt Doherty with a deliberate trip.

Many felt the decision was harsh and at best it was worthy of a yellow card.

Arsenal went onto win the game 1-0 against Wolves through a 74th minute Riccardo Calafiori strike.

But, Arsenal fans were still livid with Oliver’s decision and flocked to social media to moan.

It appears some may have crossed the line as the official PGMOL account on X has released a fresh statement claiming the referee has received ‘threats’.

They wrote: ‘We are appalled by the threats and abuse directed at Michael Oliver following the Wolverhampton Wanderers v Arsenal fixture.

No official should be subject to any form of abuse, let alone the abhorrent attacks aimed at Michael and his family over the past 24 hours.

The police are aware, and a number of investigations have commenced.

We are supporting Michael, and all those affected, and are determined to tackle this unacceptable behaviour.

Sadly, this is not the first time a match official has been forced to deal with threats in recent times. We will continue to support all investigations.’
