Pep Guardiola delivers pivotal insight into Manchester City’s summer transfer plans

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out the possibility of the champions-elect signing a striker in the summer transfer window, report Sky Sports.

As is mentioned in the report by Sky Sports, Sergio Aguero is set to leave in the summer transfer window, which would leave Guardiola with just Gabriel Jesus in terms of first-team options in attack.

Aguero started the campaign injured and City suffered as a result, and with him set to depart, you’d think they’d be forced into the market for a new centre-forward.

As detailed in Sky Sports’ report, Erling Haaland is being offered around by Mino Raiola and the player’s father. You’d have expected City to be in the race with Aguero set to depart.

However, as quoted by Sky Sports, Guardiola has revealed that City will not be looking to sign a striker this summer, with it being deemed financially impossible.

“There is a big chance we are not going to sign a striker this summer.”

“We have enough players in the first-team right now and we have interesting players in the academy, so there is a big chance that, because of the economic situation in the world right now, we are not going to sign a striker next season.”

“With these prices, we are not going to buy any striker. It’s impossible, we can’t afford it. That is not going to happen. All the clubs struggle financially, and we are not an exception.”

“We have Gabriel Jesus, we have Ferran Torres, who played incredibly this season in that position, we have young players in the academy, and we play many times with a false nine.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, maybe it is going to happen, but maybe we are not going to buy any striker for the next season. Today there is more chance we are not going to buy any striker for the next season.”
