Ireland captain Paul O’Connell has said there are no alarm bells yet for his side after their second successive defeat in the Rugby World Cup warm-ups.
Ireland go into the tournament now with two defeats in a row after their 21-13 loss to England today.
But O’Connell told Sky Sports 1: “We started very poorly. I’m not saying alarm bells will be ringing but we are very disappointed.”
He said in a press conference afterwards: “Today is a bit disappointing. To start the way we started, particularly after last week, is really disappointing.
“I think we put their line-out under pressure. But then when it came to it, they had a 7m line-out and they drew a penalty from it, kicked cross field and scored a try, whereas we had a 7m line-out in the first half, and we turned it over.
“That summed it up.”
The win over Ireland means England do not go into the World Cup on the back of two defeats.
However, England captain Chris Robshaw believes there is still room for improvement.
“It was a great final dress rehearsal,” Robshaw said, with the first match of the tournament against Fiji on September 18.
“We were not quite clinical enough. The second half we came out of the blocks pretty slow.
“But overall we are pretty pleased.
“We know Ireland are a very good side. There are areas to work on but we are in a much better place than we were two weeks ago.”
Robshaw was referring to the 25-20 defeat to France on August 22.
England coach Stuart Lancaster said: “It was important to get the win and we got a win against a good team. It was a really important game for us to win. We were really disappointed in France.”
