Former Derry City Striker Mark Farren Passes Away Aged 33

Very sad news has hit Irish football today as the news of the death of former Derry City player Mark Farren has filtered throughout the country.

The 33 year old Donegal native passed away this morning after a six year battle with a grade four brain tumour.

Farren played for Finn Harps, Monaghan United and Glenavon but it was at Derry he truly shone, scoring 114 times in a prolific spell with the club making him the their all-time top goalscorer.

He was also named the League of Ireland player of the year in 2005.
