Video: Newport County goalkeeper sets new world record for ‘longest ever goal scored’

According to the BBC Newport County’s Tom King – who scored directly from inside his own penalty box – has set a new Guinness World Record.

Newport County goalkeeper Tom King enjoyed a moment he’ll never forget after he scored a goal directly from his own kick-out.

King launched a huge goal-kick up the field and moments later the ball was in the opposition keepers net – a massive 96.01 metres away.

Guinness World Records confirmed King had “officially broke the record for the longest goal scored in a competitive football match, which covered an incredible distance of 96.01m”.

The goal came in the 12th minute as the unlikely goalscorer gave the away side the lead as Cheltenham hosted Newport.

King’s goal wasn’t enough to secure victory as the home side levelled late into injury time in the first half.
