Steve Bruce is facing the sack after Newcastle United were taken over in a £300m deal on Thursday.
Confirmation came in the afternoon that Mike Ashley had agreed to sell Newcastle to a Saudi consortium, who have an estimated wealth of £320 billion, significantly more than Premier League big-spenders Manchester City.
It marks a new era for Newcastle fans, who have endured such an ordeal in the latter years of Ashley’s reign. The Magpies will feel as though they can be optimistic for the future for the first time in years.
As part of that clean slate, Steve Bruce is expected to be sacked as Newcastle manager in due course. Bruce was Ashley’s trusted ‘yes man,’ but doesn’t have the credentials to take the club forward under new ownership.
