On December 26th 2020, Paul Merson had nothing but criticism for Marcelo Bielsa and his Leeds United side. “If I’m a Leeds fan, I’m fuming” he told Soccer Saturday.
Paul was speaking about Leeds’ massive 6-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford that saw the home side rack up an amazing 26 shots against Bielsa’s side. He ranted about pundits and fans praising Bielsa’s style of play despite the bad results, little did he know that he would become the very thing he hated just 2 months later.

Now speaking on Soccer Saturday today after Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Wolves at the Molineux, Merson is nothing but praise for Bielsa and his team’s style of play despite losing to 11th place Wolves.
This change in attitude is completely bizarre and we can’t work out why he’s come to such a sudden change of heart. He must not really know what’s going on with the Leeds team.
🗣"I usually purr over them"
🗣"I could watch him (Bielsa) for 90 minutes"
