🚨 Mike Tyson’s ex-coach reveals ‘real reason’ boxing legend was biting gloves during Jake Paul fight

Posted by

Jake Paul comfortably defeated boxing legend, Mike Tyson earlier this month.

‘The Problem Child’ added the name of Tyson to his boxing record when he defeated ‘Iron Mike’ on points at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

In a drab affair people noticed that Tyson appeared to bite his gloves which concerned Tony Bellew who believed he was in pain during the bout.

Others thought his mouthpiece was the problem and In the post-fight interview, he was asked: “Was it a mouthpiece issue, or were you just biting on your glove?”

Tyson replied: “I have a habit of biting my glove… I have a biting fixation.

Tyson’s former trainer Teddy Atlas gives his verdict on the biting.

“There’s a lot of questions out there about the thumb biting,” Atlas said.

“Mike Tyson biting his thumb through the glove. First of all, that’s something that he did in his amateur days, he did in his pro days, and now, of course, he did it again.

“For people that follow Mike Tyson, his career, they’ve seen it before. People were saying, ‘Tyson’s smart, he’s witty. He knows what to say and the importance of having that image.’

“That’s why he got all the money. It wasn’t about what he had left at 58. It was about what he maybe might have and the image. The scary guy. The guy who’s gonna eat your children, the guy who’s the baddest man on the planet.

“When people asked Tyson about the biting, he knew what to say. Again, keep that image, keep that myth. It’s important in these kinds of realms that they believe that he’s still the bogeyman.

“’Why did you bite, Mike?’ ‘I’ve got a biting ‘fixation’. In other words, so I didn’t bite his ear. Just saying that is brilliant promotion for his brand for people to stay with that image. ‘Oh my God, he bit his thumb so he wouldn’t bite his ear off’.

“But it’s not that. He’s done it before. It’s more like a pacifier. Look, everyone gets nervous, doubtful, scared. Even Mike Tyson. It was more of a thing like a pacifier when a kid’s unsure. You bite down on something. Why? To suppress those feelings, suppress the doubt, the nervousness, the uneasiness, the insecurities. That’s what it is.”

  1. I think the fight was rigged because you seen tyson catch him with that right hook and makes jaw almost came off and he wasn’t swinging with everything he had and after he hit him with you seen Paul tie him up and he was talking in Mike’s ear because 60 or not tyson was holding back if you see the traing sessions he didn’t look nothing like that except the first round and the second that’s when he caught him and rocked Paul and there was alot of other times that he would have a clear shot he would go to throw it and pull back there was really now peek a boo and where was that left hook from hell that was tuysons signature and all it would of taken was 1 of those to connect and it c of been lights out I know it was promoting Paul but it would of let Mike go out in style like the legend he is and will always be he will be remembered for the next 100 years just like mj

    1. Did or have you heard about the guy across sea that is putting up 100 million dollar for a rematch with them non scripted. I hope he takes ot and they truly fight and Tyson really show that boy (Jake Paul) what he really has when he don’t hold back and puts him to SLEEP. Take it Mike Tyson and Jake Paul don’t be scared and take it too Jake Paul…!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. I think that article I read it too I think it is a fake article wrote by a person or persons who cannot accept that, rigged or not, Mike Tyson lost.

      2. Joke paul will never take the fight he’s actually said he’s retiring from boxing not that he has anything too retire from.he didn’t earn a anything a sa boxer too say he’s retiring a boxer lol but he was the promoter mike was told not too throe any power punches like his uppercut and too make the fight last all the rounds in order too get payed the max amount so now that a bunch of real boxers challenged joke he quits that’s hilarious and if he took this fight with mike for 800 or 700 mil or whatever he would most certainly lose in forst 3 rounds……imo

    2. It’s just a simple case of “I’ll let the young guy get the props for a (win) and for 16 minutes of ring time I’ll take home $20 Million” it’s the same thing that took place during the Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez supposed “fight” where Canelo danced in the ring for 12 rounds and took home his biggest paycheck to date and was happy not to have to do much work for it…

    3. exactly! i guess no one saw the shoulder tap by tyson when they were tied up either. letting jake paul know hey we good, back up now lol

      1. Yep you know what’s up it was all a setup and the odds were always on jake paul winning tyson was told not too knock him out and he couldn’t use and big punches I wish I never watched it but I wanted too see if mike was actually gonna be able too put his all into I was very disappointed

      2. There us NO WAY jake Paul would ever agree to “fight” Mike Tyson, but I would suggest 10 million to show-up and the winner receives another 20 million and the bonus would be the sooner you end the fight the more you’d get paid, i.e. 1st round KO 40, 2nd round 30 and each round decreases significantly. You are fighting to win money, not show-up. Gladiators fought for food, money, freedom or life. That would stop all of the BS dancing and running around. Mayweather hasn’t been challenged in a Ling time and make long-term money choices by not getting hit, but is he the best combatant? I’m not hating, but I enjoye the violence in combative sports.

    4. I totally agree. I think when you put it all together what you have is a man who held back for another’s progress. He was better than that and he knew it, but he must have given his word. Even after the fight he looked ashamed. That was not the look of one who was legitimately beaten in a fair fight.

    5. Mike was paid 20M$ it was in his contract that Jake made. That if Tyson knocked Jake out . Then Tyson would be sued by Jake and would not get the $20M or anything close to it.

    6. I don’t think that the fight was rigged. Seems the days of Don King and rigged fights are the past not the present.
Don’t get me wrong, Tyson will always be a legend and I enjoyed his fights. Tyson’s age, and conditioning were definitely a factor In this fight. Also his weaving style to get close to you then knock you out with hooks and uppercuts were the days when Kevin Rooney was his trainer, after Rooney, his trainers and corner were more interested in their share of his profits rather than how much more lethal he could become…,

      1. I don’t even know what to say if you truly believe that. Abolsuteky wrong do better. The fight was 100% rigged Jake Paul is a phony

    7. Bro those clips of Tyson in training were 5 or 10 second speed-burst clips of him while fresh and unchallenged, NOT after going full contact with a 240 pound man half his age for 4+ minutes. Tyson looked great in the 1st round, and pretty decent in the 2nd round… after that the age factor came into play and father time is undefeated, you can’t escape mother nature. 58 year old men, no matter how mean and legendary they are/were, are not built for extreme sport. 50+ year old athletes can play on the Senior golf tour, but there is no Senior NFL/NHL/BOXING/MMA Tour for a reason. As a Gen-X’er who grew up watching Tyson destroy his opponents in his prime, I have to accept that those days are gone forever bro. Jake is not and never will be the beast Tyson was, but he’s good enough to go the distance and win a decision match against a 30-year-past-his-prime Iron Mike.

      1. I agree with you except I think the fact that those 4 second bursts is what was responsible for knocking opponents out 30 seconds into the 2st round..lol. I think it was rigged, it’s all good, they made their money.. I feel if it was an all out real match, Iron Mike wouldve KO’d him in 1st minute…. Peace ….👊🏼

    8. I saw a video detailing the contract. Mike’s cut was contingent on him NOT knocking Jake out AND going the distance. Mike literally did not throw one punch the last round. He didn’t want to risk “catching” him. Too bad we didn’t get to see the vintage Mike’s desire to viciously punish his opponent.

  2. Call it what it is of course their were going to be some rules set I mean come on now u talking about Mike Tyson brah, and u can tell he was holding back big time.. Plz Mike will destroy Jake Paul true fact..

  3. i totally agree with chris …..i think mike was biting his gloves because he had 20 mill on the line …..mike no smash …mikes brain: “syntax error” ….mike bites glove ….simple enough to understand

  5. His training videos alone would’ve set Paul down in first round . Mike said he will retire rich again. Trust believe it was a fixed fight

  6. Ever have to bite your tongue to not say something horrible? Mike had to bite his glove to hold back the real Iron Mike who would of knocked out Jake if it wasn’t scripted. Although it was so exciting for everyone to talk about a boxing match, I was disappointed lol I expecting a KO and Jake to flop around like a fish after seeing the training videos, all the muscle memory and an old Mike is STILL Mike Tyson. Haha, I’ve seen drunken Aunties fight harder than that but it was still fun to watch with the whole family.

  7. Mike Bit his gloves cause he couldn’t unleash what he wanted to in the fight. So biting the gloves only suppressed what he had boiling inside every time he hits the ring.

  8. It’s called stimming Stimming is a self-stimulatory behavior where people with ADHD repeat certain sounds or movements unconsciously. Chewing gum, chewing on pens or pencils, or biting nails are all examples of stimming. Stimming can help people with ADHD pay attention, manage emotions, or sit still. Let that sink also constant movement why you think Mike was so explosive and relentless if you believe Mike lost this fight because of talent from his opponent then you wasn’t paying attention to the iron man like you should of have been lord knows

  9. Yeah I haven’t gotten into the theories but I can agree with everyone and say something was definitely off. Any of you guys ever had a chance or witnessed in person the caliber of athlete you have to be when you do this for a living. Example. Mj is 60 ? Way past his prime to be a pro but you put him on the court with a weekend warrior and mj is gonna torch that fool. Same principle here Mike Tyson destroyed pro boxers although he is 58 and skills diminish but they don’t go away the fix was in

  10. All speculation and lots of people profiting from the speculation of course. Maybe it was a fight between two buddies that knew they could both benefit financially by putting on a show for the people. I don’t think it was rigged but did go exactly how both thought it would. I think Tyson tried to KO him in the first rd and knew his legs wouldn’t hold up. I think Jake knew he needed to protect himself in the first couple rounds until Tyson punched himself out. I also think Jake saw his legs were gone or had some kind of injury and just decided to coast to victory and not KO a legend in front of the world. The guy is 60 years old and human, fighting even a mediocre pro in his prime is not a healthy decision. I think Jake showed respect and the YouTuber only really wanted a win against the baddest man on the planet on both of their professional records. It was a win all around, Jake got bragging rights and improved his brand, Tyson got 20 million and a chance to put on a show for the people one more time, and the world got to see one of their favorite boxers and entertainers go at it in the ring against a internet villain. Just enjoy it.

  11. Mike Tyson could knock Jake out but he gassed out quick cuz he’s 58 and iron Mike or not he don’t have the stamina to cover distance like he use to over and over so no matter how he looked in videos before the fight doing jt in the fight is way harder so no he could knock Jake our cuz he couldn’t last long enough to do it. He only has a punchers chance in the first or second round period idc way anyone says

  12. Of course it was rigged. That’s not a secret. The contract stated that the fight had to go all rounds in order for Mike to get the full $20 million.

  13. Y’all are misinformed regarding their pay for that awful display. Netflix is who paid both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. They paid them both $40 million. Not 40mil for Jake and 20 mil for Tyson. They each got paid the same. Yes it was definitely rigged/scripted

  14. Impact of Shorter Rounds (2 Minutes)
    Pace of the Fight:
Advantage Jake Paul: The shorter rounds allowed Jake Paul to maintain a higher pace without worrying as much about conserving energy for longer exchanges. As a younger fighter, this format likely suited him better because he could engage in bursts of activity without the need for extensive endurance.

Disadvantage Mike Tyson: Tyson, known for his explosive starts but also his ability to pace himself across 3-minute rounds in his prime, might have struggled to fully execute his strategy. The shorter rounds limited the time he had to set up his powerful combinations or corner Paul effectively.

    Less Risk of Sustained Damage:
With fewer minutes in each round, the likelihood of prolonged exchanges and significant damage decreased. This meant Tyson’s potential for landing a game-changing knockout was reduced, while Paul benefited from not needing to survive as many grueling moments.

    Breaks Between Rounds:
Shorter rounds often lead to slightly quicker recovery for both fighters. This may have minimized the conditioning disadvantage for Tyson but also reduced the chances of either fighter becoming fatigued and making mistakes.

Impact of Bigger Gloves (14 Ounces)

    Reduced Power Impact:
Disadvantage Tyson: Tyson’s legendary punching power was partially neutralized by the heavier gloves, which absorb and distribute impact more than smaller gloves. This meant his punches were less likely to have the same devastating effect as they would with standard gloves.

Advantage Paul: The reduced power from Tyson’s punches gave Paul more confidence to engage without as much fear of being knocked out.

    Longer Exchanges:
Bigger gloves can also slow down punches slightly and make defense easier because they provide more surface area to block or deflect punches. This likely benefited Paul, who relied on his defensive strategy and counterpunching throughout the fight.

    Increased Safety:
The larger gloves offered more protection for both fighters, reducing the chances of cuts or knockdowns. While this is typically beneficial in promoting longer fights, it likely diminished Tyson’s knockout potential, as his best path to victory involved landing heavy punches early.

    Overall Impact on the Fight
For Jake Paul: The shorter rounds and larger gloves played to his strengths as a younger, less experienced boxer. They allowed him to stay active, avoid serious danger, and focus on scoring points rather than engaging in risky exchanges.

For Mike Tyson: These changes worked against Tyson’s traditional strengths—explosive power and aggressive combinations. They forced him to adapt to a slower, more methodical style that didn’t suit his age or natural fighting instincts.

In summary, the rule adjustments created a safer, more controlled environment that likely tilted the fight in favor of Jake Paul. Tyson’s ability to leverage his power and experience was curtailed, giving Paul the edge to outlast him and win on points.

  15. Bro his trainer’s said a lot of nothing we know the truth we not stupid, its a paid fight paid fights have rules and rules we know they had to go by in order to get paid millions. I watch his fights there wasnt much a biting gloves he actually fought he didnt have time to stand around biting gloves

  16. I seen 4 open shots Mike could broke his jaw. But hey he gave him a win and got paid well to do it. Both guys trained better and harder than what they done in the ring but that my opinion
