Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted he struggles to understand club captain Wayne Rooney, and believes he is not the only one.
The Dutch manager was being interviewed on Dutch TV and described how people are baffled by Rooney’s strong Liverpool accent.
”I have no idea what that guy just said to me.”
“When I speak, I am well articulated,” Van Gaal explained with his customary modesty.
“If you put Wayne Rooney here in the seat, and you start talking to him, do you think people can understand Wayne Rooney?
“You simply can’t understand what he says.”
”Do you know what he’s talking about? Anyone?”
The comments have drawn plenty of giggles online, including from Liverpool fans.

To be fair, in the same interview the manager also praised Rooney to the skies, putting him in the top five players he has ever worked with.
