Liverpool will play the national anthem ahead of their Premier League fixture against Brentford on Saturday the club has confirmed.
This is to mark the coronation of King Charles III after the Premier League asked clubs to do so.
This Saturday will see three historic events marked at Anfield as Liverpool get set to welcome Brentford for their Premier League clash.

Liverpool have released a statement that read:
‘Before kick-off and in recognition of the Premier League’s request to mark the coronation, players and officials will congregate around the centre circle when the national anthem will be played. It is, of course, a personal choice how those at Anfield on Saturday mark this occasion and we know some supporters have strong views on it.’
Fans have reacted to the news on social media:
One said, ‘Disappointing that the club has bowed to the pressure to play the national anthem, but it will be drowned out by the booing anyway.’
Another added, “Glad you’ve decided to play it, will be a fantastic watch with the booing.’
A third added, ‘Spineless decision and spineless the way you have tried to hide it within other announcements..’
