Steven Gerrard beat ex-England teammate to Aston Villa job after failed interview

Frank Lampard was reportedly interviewed by Aston Villa over the managerial position – but the club decided to appoint Steven Gerrard instead.

Lampard has been out of work since being fired by Chelsea back in January. The former England international took the Blues as far as he possibly could, into the top four, but was unable to take that further forward stride.

There has been some suggestion of Lampard being picky over what job he takes next. It was widely reported that Norwich City offered him the vacant manager’s job, but he opted against heading to Carrow Road.

It has now emerged, or so claim The Sun, that Lampard DID interview for the Aston Villa role, but the Midlands club snubbed him and instead appointed former England teammate Steven Gerrard.
