Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick was yesterday charged with violent disorder, less than 24 hours after playing a crucial role in Ireland’s victory over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium.
A fantastic run and cross from Hendrick set up Jon Walters to score the only goal in the game, keeping Ireland’s dream of Euro 2016 qualification alive.
The Dublin-born player was required to present himself at Pearse St Garda Station in relation to an incident that took place on 12 October 2013.
At the station Hendrick was arrested and charged with violent disorder in Harcourt St in Dublin city centre on that date.
RTE reports that he was brought to appear before Judge Anthony Halpin at a late sitting of Dublin District Court.
There Garda Damian Beakey told the court that the midfielder had been arrested at 3.28am and the charge was put to him by the station sergeant a short time later.
The Garda made no objection to bail, so Hendrick was remanded on bail in his own bond of €200.
The case was adjourned until October 20, when Hendrick will enter a plea. The player will not have to attend on that date as he has a match scheduled for the following day with his club Derby County.
The Public Order charge involves an allegation of the use of, or the threat of violence. There were no injuries reported during the alleged incident.
