Harry Maguire didn’t hold back when talking about the referee’s performance after England was booted out of the tournament.
England can walk away from their 2-1 loss to France feeling hard done by after the referee seemed determined not to give them anything throughout the game.
Although the Three Lions were awarded two penalties, the referee had to rely on VAR for the second, they had some criminal moments ignored by the official.
In the lead-up to Aurélien Tchouaméni’s 25-yard thunderbolt, Bukayo Saka was blatantly fouled on the opposite end of the pitch before the counter attack from France. The Arsenal youngster was repeatedly chopped down by the opposition but the referee waved on almost every foul.
In his post-match interview, Maguire said that he thought “the decision making was poor.”
“I think the referee’s decision-making throughout the game was really poor.” he told beIN Sports.
“We always stand here and as players we get criticised – so it would be nice to see if he comes out and says whether he’s had a good game or not.
“Because there were so many decisions in that first half where they made five, six early fouls.
“I think H [Harry Kane] was outside the box but it was a clear foul, he didn’t in the second half, Bukayo’s is a clear foul leading up to their first goal.
“Big moments, big decisions, you expect to get some right but unfortunately tonight we didn’t get any.”
“The referees decision making tonight was really poor. It would be nice to see if he comes out to say if he’s had a good game or not!”@HarryMaguire93 was disappointed by the big calls made by referee Wilton Sampaio.
