Argentina may as well just give up trying to win rugby matches of this is how they’re treated. Add the other yellow tonight they’ve been truly shafted in plain sight
I always thought in union if the ball goes backwards relative to the pitch then it can’t be a knock-on. There’s enough fumbles in open play that go forward out the hand but backwards to the pitch that are let go
If an attacking French player had touched the ball like that, it would definitely have been called a knock on. Both can’t be true.Correct decision. No different to when a ball goes forwards but backwards out the hands.
When writing such articles please can you give a balanced view and provide facts on the actual laws of the game.
This article is misleading and incorrect.
Ridiculous “paralel”! What Eben did has nothing to do with the one on the game France-Pumas. One was clearly legal and the other a cynical knock on destrution of an about to ve try.
Both players were attempting the ball with one hand unfortunately the Italian player got first touch and knocked the ball on stopping his opponent scoring a try.
No matter how you look at it, the action was illegal.
Yellow card no penalty yes.
The Italian player should have gone for the tackle
Which planet are you from? If you don’t see the two hands of the French player, get some glasses. And the Argentinian player (italien? Again reach for glasses) makes no attempt to catch and taps it out of bounds ( illegal) killing a try. So right decision
No knock on as far as I can see.. player intended knocking it away from the attacking player it went backwards but bounced as rugby balls do out to touch.
Italian player? Do you mean the ARG player. If he knocked it forward it was deliberate foul if he knocked it backwards it was a knock on.
Which one do you want ?
Italian? Try Argentine, who clearly palms the ball and knocks on and puts the ball into touch… both illegal actions. Couldn’t have tackled because the French player wasn’t in possession of the ball.
Yellow and penalty try any day of the week.
The Argentinian player is attempting to catch the ball from a kick. As he gets to the ball he is bumped by the French player. He is NOT attempting to knock the ball anywhere, and the ball actually travels backwards before bouncing forward.
Note. He is attempting to catch a ball from a kick. There is no intent to knock the ball into touch.
If this interpretation is used every time a player goes into the air to catch a ball, then there will be continual yellow cards.
Everyone should look at the “offence” again with the thought that the player is trying to pull the ball toward himself to gain possession.
…and the bitching continues game after game after game. No wonder rugby is only the 9th popular sport in the universe.
