Fans aren’t buying Anthony Gordon’s take that he was a ‘massive part’ of keeping Everton up last season

Everton fans are not happy with Anthony Gordon’s claims that he deserved more credit for keeping the club up last season.

Everton finished the 2021/22 season just four points above the relegation zone and Gordon spoke to Sky Sports recently to say he was “hurt” that Toffees fans didn’t give him any credit or thanks for helping them stay a top-flight team.

My whole life was Everton, I grew up on their streets. The situation with the fans last year was tough, but I’m a 22-year old footballer so I’m not going to handle every situation perfectly.

For a club with so many fans and people working for them, the effort that I gave them last year, I was a massive part in keeping the club up. I won Players’ Player of the Year and Manager’s Player of the Year, so for them to not show me any credit or thank me for my efforts, it hurt me.”

Gordon’s words haven’t gone down well with some of the fans though, with plenty having their say on his interview.

Four goals in 37 matches, who would ever forget such a massive contribution?“, “Dele Alli has done more for us than this kopite“, “Didn’t he refuse to train in order to force a move?” were just a few comments among a host that questioned the winger’s words – it looks like the Everton fans won’t be forgiving Gordon in a hurry…
