Elliott called into Ireland squad as Given ruled out

Rob Elliot has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their crucial final Euro 2016 qualifying game against Poland in Warsaw on Sunday.

Shane Long’s 70th-minute winner, coupled with Poland’s 2-2 draw in Scotland, ensured that the Germans, the Poles and the Irish will all head into Sunday evening’s final round of fixtures knowing each could yet top Group D.

The Newcastle United goalkeeper comes in as a replacement for Shay Given, who suffered a knee injury in last night’s 1-0 victory over Germany.

Given was substituted in the first half and will report back to his club for further assessment.

The FAI report today that there are no other injury concerns for manager Martin O’Neill with Seamus Coleman and Marc Wilson both available for selection for their final Group D game.
