Eddie Hearn backtracks over Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk claims

Eddie Hearn has majorly backtracked over his previous claims that Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk II would be taking place in June.

Hearn revealed his belief earlier in the week that Usyk would leave his native Ukraine and embark on a training camp in order to ready himself for the defence of his titles against Anthony Joshua. That belief appears to have been misguided.

Hearn has now clarified that he is unsure if Usyk will be prepared to abandon the frontline amidst the Russian invasion and has poured icy cold water over the suggestion that AJ vs Usyk II would be delayed no further than the month of June.

Hearn can be forgiven for not knowing the intricate details of Usyk’s thought process, but he should not be commenting on the situation at all if his comments are merely based on assumption. The matter is far too sensitive to allow for misinformation.

Of course, we all want to see the pair step in the ring for a second time in order to discover if Joshua can achieve redemption, but we understand that there are currently more important matters for Usyk to be attending to. Let’s wait until we hear from the man himself.
