Damien Duff believes that Kylian Mbappe ‘doesn’t lace the boots’ of Lionel Messi

Damien Duff made it clear what he thinks of the comparisons between Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

Argentina is set to face off against France in the World Cup final on Sunday. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since their exciting 4-3 game at the 2018 tournament.

There are so many storylines that come with the clash of these two titans, of which the forefront is the battle between old and young.

Mbappe will face off against Messi in what many believe will be the passing of the torch.

The French winger is considered by most to be the next footballing great, but Duff doesn’t believe that he comes close to Messi in his prime.

“The best version of Messi, when he was, what, 23, 24, 25, maybe – Mbappe doesn’t lace his boots.” The RTE pundit said.

“The best version of Messi, Mbappe still doesn’t touch Messi. That’s how good Messi was. That is what I am saying.

“Messi is the best ever… by some distance, yeah,”
