Connacht CEO John Prenty on why Congress shouldn't extend inter-county season:
“Are we going to give club dual players no break, just set them off in the middle of August & let them keep going until they die with their boots on? Do we not care about them?”https://t.co/kbsGXam35D— Eoghan Cormican (@cormicaneoghan) February 25, 2026
Here are some of the comment online ..
Remove provincials from football champ. Have a league based competition for Sam & it will improve players’ lot.
Serious own goal moving the All Irelands from September. In my opinion they should dedicate one weekend every month from April to September to the club championship this worked before.
As only JP can & does frequentlyThere doesn’t need to be any split season, both seasons should be intertwined like the rugby and soccer does. You have a month of club action and then back to inter-country for two months.

The only reason it changed is to allow well known player to go to the US for six weeks to make some money. Quasi semi pro’s. I understand the desire of the hierarchy to remain Amateur and the tradition. It’s not lost on me. The players need to be paid (somehow) for the effort they put in Physically and more importantly culturally. We will not loose the culture by paying them. Commercial companies don’t.
