Brentford manager Thomas Frank learnt midway through his press conference that the number of positive cases in camp has risen to 13.
The disruption caused by the new wave of coronavirus, fuelled by the mutated Omicron variant, threatens to wipe out the whole Premier League festive calendar.
With training sessions already having been cancelled and games already having been postponed, Brentford are the latest top-tier club to have been struck by the virus.
Manager Thomas Frank, speaking to the media about the precarious COVID situation at the club, learnt midway through his press conference that another four positive cases had been added to the tally.

Frank, clearly concerned about how the crisis is deepening with every day that passes, went on to request that the Premier League call a halt to proceedings in order to get the situation under control.

As much as nobody wants to see football cancelled and the fantastic Christmas period of Premier League football disrupted, the health and safety of players, staff and fans is paramount.
It’s becoming difficult to disagree with Frank’s view that we need swift intervention in order to get the situation under control.
