Atletico Madrid are set to be without their star defender for their Champions League clash on Tuesday the 23rd of February with Chelsea in Bucharest.
Their last 16 tie was moved to Bucharest as new COVID guidelines meant Chelsea could not travel into the country so Atletico was dealt a massive blow after their home tie was taken away from them.
Now they have been dealt another blow with Jose Maria Gimenez injured for up to three weeks according to Football Espana via Marca.
His calf injury has ruled him out for at least four games and he will be a major loss for Diego Simeone, Mario Hermoso is returning to the squad after recovering from COVID-19.
Many players have struggled with fitness after returning from injury so will this be another factor that Diego will have to look at and maybe something Thomas Tuchel could exploit by using a pacey forward like Werner over Tammy Abraham.
