Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is unable to travel home to his native Brazil to attend his fathers funeral due to Coronavirus restrictions.

According to talkSPORT, the Brazil international is said to have been ‘trying ‘desperately’ to find a way home to join his family but due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and the fact his wife Natalia is heavily pregnant means the 28-year-old has been forced to stay in the UK.

Local police told Brazilian media that Jose Agostinho Becker is believed to have drowned after disappearing near a dam – he was just 57-years-old.

Mr.Becker is said to have gone for a swim near his property in Lavras do Sul, in southern Brazil and was declared missing before being found by a friend and an employee of the family.

The body of Mr.Becker was found on Wednesday morning and Police are treating the 57-year-olds death as an accident.

Mr.Becker, just like his two sons, was a goalkeeper also and played in amateur leagues in Brazil.

Brazilian club Internacional, where both his sons, Alisson and Muriel, began their careers have reacted to the news saying: “It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel.”

This is the second close family death to hit the Liverpool camp this year after manager Jurgen Klopp’s mother passed away earlier this year.

Klopp was also unable to travel home for his parents funeral due to a strict travel ban in German which doesn’t allow any flights from the UK to enter the country.
