History was made in Italy’s Serie B over the weekend, after Vicenza’s Cristian Galano received football’s first ever green card for his sporting behaviour.
The green card will be awarded for acts of fair play as part of an initiative that the league’s officials announced they were introducing at the beginning of the season. The player who receives the most green cards will be awarded at the end of the season.
Vicenza’s Galano was awarded a green card after admitting that no Vitrus Entella defenders had touched the ball before his team were awarded a corner.
