Team GB’s Keely Hodgkinson won silver and broke Kelly Holmes’ record in the 800m final at Tokyo 2020 – and even she couldn’t believe it!
Hodgkinson finished in second place behind Team USA’s Athing Mu to become the first Briton to win an Athletics medal in Tokyo 2020 to date.
In doing so, she also set a new British record, beating Kelly Holmes’ time and writing her name into British Athletics folklore.
Hodgkinson could hardly believe what she’d achieved in wake of the race, being caught by the cameras appearing to express her surprise by saying: “what the f***?”
Fabulous run by @keelyhodgkinson. A British record and a Silver medal at 19. I mean wtf? 🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/KHQ4lT1hHb

That is, to be fair, the reaction we’d have if we ever won a silver medal at the olympics – how the f*** have we pulled that off?
It makes you all the more proud to be British seeing members of Team GB achieve feats of this nature and follow it up with an archetypal British phrase.
Hats off to you, Keely Hodgkinson…
