Scottish League One side Forfar defeated Dumbarton by a single goal yesterday afternoon – and while that wouldn’t ordinarily make the news – it was one of the most extraordinary goals you’re ever likely to see.

Lower league Scottish football has faced major disruption as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so the players will be delighted to be out on the field of play doing what they do best, no doubt.

Though, Dumbarton’s Ryan McGeever probably wished he’d stayed locked up at home when a kick from his goalkeeper cannoned off of his back and found its way into the back of his own net.

It’s not entirely clear why the goalkeeper decided to drop the ball on the floor, having seen the Forfar attacker approaching, but by doing so he put himself under pressure, pressure which resulted in him swinging a boot at it.

Unfortunately for him, the ball didn’t get any further than Ryan McGeever – but at least he’ll know for next time…
