Chelsea prospect Ethan Ampadu was shown a straight red card for a stamp on Federico Bernardeschi’s ankle during Italy vs Wales.
Though Wales can afford to lose today against a strong Italy side and still progress through to the knockout stages of the competition, there is a mathematical possibility that Switzerland could knock them down to third on goal difference.
With Robert Page’s men heading into half-time 1-0 down, with Switzerland 2-0 up, they’d be wanting to ensure they didn’t fall apart in the second half of the contest and run the risk of surrendering the second spot.

However, Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu put Wales in real risk of unravelling by reducing them to ten men with 35 minutes left to play. The 20-year-old came in late on Federico Bernardeschi, stamping on his ankle.
The on-field decision was to brandish the red card, and following a VAR review, that was confirmed. Ampadu was given his marching orders, and in truth, he couldn’t really argue with it…
