Having come into Saturday night’s exciting bout as the home crowd’s favourite, Ritson was unable to claim victory over his South American opponent.

The fight was eventually called in the 10th round after Ponce landed a series of devastating body shots.

However, in what was a truly bizarre set of circumstances – many believe the bout should have ended a lot sooner.

Ritson’s corner were clearly seen throwing the towel in – an action which means a fighter’s corner have seen enough and want their man out of there.

However, strangely, referee Steve Gray decided to ignore the request of the corner and instead threw the towel back at them before allowing the fight to continue.

After the bout Gray took the time to enter Ritson’s dressing room and explain his decision not to accept the corner’s attempt to call off the fight.
