An unscheduled open top bus parade has caused mayhem in Liverpool city centre this morning following Liverpool’s dramatic 4-3 victory over German side Borussia Dortmund last night.
The parade, which was only organised last night, has been traveling through the city centre since 8am this morning and has brought the entire city centre to a standstill.
One local man is outraged by the unexpected surge in people and believes something has to be done about these unscheduled events. “This is just ridiculous right. They can’t keep having a parade every time they have a good night in Europe. We get it, they won the European cup 5 times but this is just embarrassing.”
The parade is due to reach a stage at Anfield which has been erected for a presentation at midday today where an estimated 150,000 delighted Liverpool fans are expected to attend. The presentation will see Liverpool chairman Tom Werner present a replica Europa League trophy cut in half to captain Jordan Henderson for reaching the semi-final stage of the Europa League.
“It’s a tremendous occasion for the club. I’m looking forward to presenting Jordan with the half-trophy and maybe the lads can go on and win the full one later on in the tournament” said Werner.
This isn’t the first time Liverpool have presented unofficial trophies to a Liverpool captain. Steven Gerrard was presented with a Premier League trophy in 2014 after Liverpool’s heroics saw the Merseyside’s finish 2nd in the Premier League behind Manchester City.
