FA strike Tuchel and Conte with fines and BAN for touchline scrap during Battle of the Bridge II

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte have learned their punishment for THAT touchline brawl during the Battle of the Bridge part two.

There were multiple flashpoints between Tuchel and Conte, the most memorable of which came at the full-time whistle, with Tuchel grabbing Conte’s hand and insisting he looked into his eyes.

Rather predictably, that resulted in an all-out war between the two benches, which amplified the situation to more than it probably needed to be and also guaranteed the two managers would face punishment.

The FA announced Tuchel and Conte’s respective punishments in a statement released on Friday, with Conte being fined £15k and Tuchel being fined £35k, plus a one-match touchline suspension.

An independent Regulatory Commission has today ordered that Thomas Tuchel be fined £35,000 and banned from the touchline for one match, and Antonio Conte be fined £15,000 after they respectively breached FA Rule E3.

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte admitted that their behaviour after the final whistle of the Premier League game between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022 was improper, and both managers requested a paper hearing.

These sanctions are subject to appeal, and Thomas Tuchel’s one match touchline ban has been suspended temporarily pending the independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons for its decisions that will be made available in due course.

Tuchel will be available in the dugout for Chelsea this weekend against Leeds United, much to Jesse Marsch’s dismay, but the German will likely serve it next time out against Leicester City.

Tuchel is yet to learn what kind of punishment he will be facing as a consequence of his post-match comments about calamitous referee Anthony Taylor, there may well be further fines to come.

Ultimately, though, you have to question why Tuchel is being penalised and suspended, but Anthony Taylor and Mike Dean will be free to continue with their officiating roles without reprimand…
