Kefu and three members of his family were the victims of an attack by intruders at their Brisbane home early on Monday morning in an alleged attempted car robbery.

The Rugby World Cup winner and Tonga coach reportedly confronted the young men, who were brandishing a knife, a machete and an axe.

He and his family all suffered serious wounds, including him being stabbed in the abdomen and requiring emergency surgery, while his wife Rachel suffered ‘significant’ lacerations on her arm and is in a different hospital.

Australian media reported the couple’s 21-year-old son had significant arm and back wounds, and their 18-year-old daughter had cuts to her hand and arm.

A 15-year-old has been charged with attempted murder. Queensland Police said another boy, also 15, was in custody and they were searching for a third suspect.

Former Queensland Reds teammate and friend Shane Drahm visited Kefu in hospital and reported that he is now in a stable condition and has family around him.
