Sunderland legend gives his verdict on Roy Keane becoming manager for second stint

Sunderland legend Micky Gray has backed Roy Keane to be a success at the Stadium of Light, should he be appointed for a second time.

Keane previously had a relatively successful stint with Sunderland during their time in the Premier League. He has, however, not worked in management for a decade.

The Irishman has focused on his punditry career and decided not to pursue any further managerial opportunities. That has now changed, so it seems.

Keane is considered one of the frontrunners to become the new Sunderland manager as the Black Cats strive to gain promotion out of League One.

Though some could be forgiven for considering it naive to appoint a relatively inexperienced manager with a short fuse, Micky Gray has given Keane his backing.

“There have been a dozen names that have been mentioned there, I think Roy Keane has come from the back to the front.”

“He’s obviously been at the club before and he was very successful, he got us into the Premier League where we stayed for a long time.”

“I know Roy had left for a period when we were still in the Premier League, but I think he’d be a good appointment and I think the supporters will get right behind it.” [Quotes via talkSPORT]

It remains to be seen if Keane will be chosen as the right man to take Sunderland forward, but if he is, you can be certain that it won’t be boring…
