Sir Alex reveals the reason he didn’t sign Jordan Henderson in 2011

Jordan Henderson signed for Liverpool on the 1st of July 2011 for a fee of £16.2 million according to Transfermarket, but what could have been if he signed for Sir Alex’s Manchester United in stead.

The young Sunderland boy made the swap from east coast to the west coast and has earned trophies as Liverpool captain but could his fate have been different under other management, Sir Alex revealed that he almost signed young Jordan reports the Daily Mail.

Sir Alex remembers the moment vividly and says that he was advised against signing young Henderson by medical staff

‘We were ready to make a bid for Jordan Henderson at Sunderland. I spoke to Steve Bruce and he loved the guy,’

‘And then our medical department said they were not happy with his running style – he could be the type to have injuries.

‘I must say it was one of my bits of management to make sure the player is always available.

‘If you sign a player and he is not available for you, it is a waste of time so that is the point I have to make about Jordan.

United’s legendary manager then spoke of how Jordan has proved himself as a fantastic talent and that he, the man who never seemed to make a mistake ‘missed out’ on a great player.

‘We loved him as a player and he has proved that now, he has been fantastic and all the stories I am being told, it tells me I missed out on a really good person.’

It’s not often you hear the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson say they’ve made a mistake and missed out on a player unless that manager is Arsene Wenger of course.

Do you think Jordan would’ve fit in at United under Sir Alex or was he better off being chosen by Liverpool?
