“He’s obviously not the player he was” – Rooney delivers difficult truths to struggling Ronaldo

Wayne Rooney has delivered a difficult truth about former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s cameo midweek was the latest disappointing performance from the veteran, who has fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag.

Following his failed exit from Man United over the summer, he is now lumbered among the substitutes for fixtures with any meaning for United.

Wayne Rooney, a former teammate of Ronaldo’s has now given his take on the situation, as he is quoted doing so by the Daily Mail:

“The manager’s obviously gone a different way in terms of how they’re playing and been successful.”

“Cristiano … him and (Lionel) Messi are two of the greatest players to ever play the game, but ultimately time catches up with us all.”

“He’s obviously not the player he was when he was 22 or 23, for instance. It’s a tough one for him.”

Ronaldo is evidently past his best, but still managed a 24 goals in 38 games in all competitions last campaign.

He still has enough in the tank to be effective, but whether that will be for Manchester United, it looks seriously unlikely at this point.
