Manchester United might have signed one of the world’s best defensive midfielders in Casemiro – but Wayne Rooney is NOT impressed.
United, who have endured a difficult summer transfer window to date, have somehow convinced Casemiro to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford.
On the surface of it, it looks like an absolute triumph for Man United and Erik ten Hag, but club record goalscorer Wayne Rooney is NOT impressed.
Rooney believes that Man United should not be recruiting 30-years-old for the squad and should instead focus on a long-term rebuild of ten Hag’s ranks.
🗣️: Wayne Rooney
“Ideally, they should be signing players in their early to mid-twenties, and Casemiro is similar to Christian Eriksen”
“Someone who has been a good player, but are they going to help the club move forward?

While Rooney has a point, you have to recognise that there is a need for Man United to remain competitive in the here and now, that’s why Casemiro is arriving.
Man United had a desperate need for a defensive midfielder and they have managed to recruit arguably the best player in that position anywhere on the planet.
United should indeed recruit young players for the future, but signing world-class players for the present isn’t a strategy worthy of any criticism.
