Race for Sam: Pairings for the final football qualifiers decided

The All Ireland SFC is moving towards the business end of the competition and the final round of qualifiers takes place over the next two weekends.

Westmeath will face Fermanagh in the first game (5pm) on Saturday July 25 while the clash of Kildare and Cork will take place at 7pm.

Sligo face Tyrone in the qualifiers after losing to Mayo on Sunday.

Provincial runners up have generally had a poor record in the qualifiers with Westmeath and Cork facing tricky assignments at neutral venues.

Mikey Harte’s Tyrone side are in action the following weekend where they will face Sligo – who were given a in the Connaught final yesterday.

The final qualifier game is between Donegal and Galway and is a real intriguing contest. Donegal in the Ulster Final while on Saturday night.

The Central Competitions Control Committee of the GAA are expected to confirm the neutral venues for next weekend’s eagerly awaited contests this afternoon.

In the other code, both hurling quarter- finals will take place on Sunday afternoon at Thurles. Dublin and Waterford will get proceedings underway at 2pm while Cork and Galway take the field at 4pm.
