In an interview with Sky Sports Olé Gunnar Solskjaer laughed off Jurgen Klopp’s comments comparing Liverpool’s penalty record to Manchester United’s.
Following Liverpool’s loss to Southampton Klopp bizarrely brought up Manchester United’s penalty record after the German felt his side deserved one in the game which was not awarded.
Liverpool went on to lose the game thanks to a solitary goal by former striker Danny Ings, which ultimately condemned them to defeat and made it three games without a win in the Premier League.
Klopp isn’t wrong in what he is saying – in fact United have been awarded more penalties since the German coach took over in 20015.
Penalties won in the Premier League since the start of the 2018-19 season:

Following Klopp’s remarks Solskjaer said: “Maybe it is a way of influencing referees?” The United manager also said Solskjaer said he would not spend his time counting as his side prepare to host Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
