Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct seals five-year sponsorship deal with Cork GAA

Cork GAA are to be sponsored by the man behind Newcastle football club Mike Ashley. The Londoner will sponsor both Hurling & Football, Men’s & Women’s teams for the next five years in what looks like a very beneficial deal for both parties.

It is understood that the contract is worth €2m over five years, with performance bonuses of up to €2m, including €200,000 for winning an All-Ireland title. A boot deal is also included. Cork GAA is obviously a major player in the GAA with Cork being the biggest county in Ireland and always right up there in both codes in Hurling and Football

Cork GAA have been sponsored by Chill insurance for the last number of years. For any county to be competitive now a days and hoping to win All-Ireland titles, you need a big money sponsorship deal. Just look at Limerick and Dublin the All-Ireland champions both have big money behind them. Is this a good deal for Cork GAA?
