Some extremely sad news coming out of Mayo GAA this morning 🕊️

Eilis Maloney passed away on the 28th of December a passing that has shaken the community and we send our best to Eilis’ family and friends at this time.
The Mayo GAA ladies football team said the following on their Facebook page;
It is with deep sadness we learn of the heartbreaking loss of one of our talented LGFA member Èilis Maloney 🤍💚❤️
All in Mayo LGFA would like to send our our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to the Maloney family on the very sad passing of Èilis Maloney RIP 🕯
Our heartfelt and sincere condolences and thoughts go to Èilis’s parents, Vincent and Carmel, her sister Claire, and brother Sean & extended family during this difficult time. We ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
We would also like to extend our sympathies to her football club Ballinrobe GAA Club of which she played with distinction, determination & grit. She was a player who put everything into her game and left it all on the field. Eilis was a great character on the pitch and you’d do well to stop her determination. Courageous on the ball and a leader.
Eilis also played for a time with the Neale Gaa . We would also send our condolences to her sister Claire who plays with Kilmaine LGFA . The sisters often came up against each other doing battle on the field , more notably the girls lined out on opposite teams in the League finals earlier this year.
A talented, tough, hardworking and tenacious player and big lover of LGFA & GAA you’d always see Èilis out supporting the women’s & men’s Mayo teams throughout the season both home and away. She took pride in the Jersey and she will be deeply missed both on and off the field 💚❤️🪽 The sky has gained an angel and a team mate 🪽
Our thoughts are with her sister Claire, all her teammates in Ballinrobe and fellow club members, her family and friends.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis 💚
