Why Erik ten Hag simply had to go ..

The news broke today that Manchester United have indeed finally partied ways with the 54 year old Dutch man Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils have been on an awful run of games and lie 14th in the Premier League table. Simply not good enough for a club of Manchester United’s stature.

That’s eight manager the Old Trafford club have gone through now since the departure of their legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Former striker and club favourite Ruud van Nistelrooy will now take over as caretaker manager until the Glazers find a suitable replacement for ten Hag.

It’s been over ten years since Manchester United last won the Premier League, can you see the Red Devils winning the league in the next ten years? This is a club that laughed at their bitter rivals Liverpool for going 20 years without winning the league and one of Manchester United’s former greats once, Ryan Giggs was quoted as saying; ‘Manchester United would never do what Liverpool did .. ‘

The next few weeks and months at Old Trafford are going to be very interesting, Ruud van Nistelrooy has a real chance here of getting the job full time. He is loved by the fans and was a serious player for the club and has built up some nice experience in the Dutch league as a manager under PSV & crash games money will be on his side ..

If Ruud van Nistelrooy doesn’t work out, who will the Red Devils look to bring in? A lot of fans are now saying Julian Nagelsmann, but would the 37 year old really want to come in and take on the massive job that is Manchester United.

Fingers have to be squarely pointed at the players now, eight managers the club has gone through, millions has been spent on recruitment and bringing in top end players and none of them has seemed to have worked out.

Do Manchester United fans just have to get use to this new norm of being just a top six team from now on? When Manchester United were at the height of their powers and winning leagues under Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and even teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa weren’t as strong as they are now.

The other teams have pushed on and the Red Devils have stayed where they are it seems .. Whatever happens at Old Trafford in the next few months or year or two, things need to improve quick!
