Manchester United have reportedly identified a potential replacement for captain Harry Maguire.
Maguire has been nothing short of a disastrous acquisition for Man United. They thought they were spending £80m on a player with the calibre to become one of the best in the world, but he couldn’t be further away from that bracket.
The England international has been costing United points on virtually a weekly basis this campaign – and there’s only so long that Ralf Rangnick can justify selecting him in defence, should he actually want to achieve anything as manager.
Even though Rangnick is unlikely to be in charge of the Red Devils come the season’s end, he is understood to be set to head upstairs and take an advisory role as part of a reshuffle of the decision-makers at Old Trafford.
Perhaps that’s why, according to Fanatik, Man United have identified Atalanta defender Merih Demiral as a potential replacement for Maguire when the summer transfer window opens later in the year.
Demiral has been performing superbly for Atalanta and Maguire has been doing anything but for Man United. Perhaps he could be the perfect partner for Raphael Varane in defence – and the man to end Maguire’s Man United career.
