Manchester United have been dealt a considerable blow in their efforts to sign PSV Eindhoven youngster Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo has been tentatively linked with a move to Man United this summer, but recent transfer failures have catapulted the 23-year-old to the top of Erik ten Hag’s wish list.
Man United are understood to be preparing a bid that they hope will convince PSV Eindhoven to part ways with the man who contributed 25 g/a in 27 league games last season.
However, as is reported by the Mirror, Man United can be offered no guarantees that Gakpo would agree to leave his current club in order to move to Old Trafford this summer.
With PSV Eindhoven having won in their Champions League play-off match, they now face Scottish giants Rangers for a place in the competition’s group stages.
Considering Man United cannot offer Gakpo Champions League football this season (or probably for a while) would he really want to downgrade by joining them?
Man United will be crossing their fingers that the financial rewards promised by the Premier League can tempt Gakpo, but whether it’s this summer of not, he looks destined for the top regardless…
