(Video) Jack Butland makes HORROR error to gift Millwall opening goal in South London derby

Crystal Palace stand-in goalkeeper Jack Butland made a HORROR error during his side’s tussle with Millwall this afternoon.

Palace headed to The Den in Saturday’s 12:45 kick-off hoping to navigate a way past their South London rivals and reach the next stage of the FA Cup.

Being the Premier League side, they headed into the contest as the favourites, but via some National League standard goalkeeping, they’ve found themselves 1-0 down.

As we know, clubs like to play out from the back more often than not nowadays. Even Swindon Town were attempting to do so against Manchester City – and paid the price.

With Butland stepping into the Palace starting XI, he has evidently been instructed to play out from the penalty area by manager Patrick Vieira. The Frenchman is likely regretting those instructions right now.

Butland hesitated while under pressure from the pressing Millwall attack and subsequently gave the ball away cheaply, leaving former Arsenal striker Benik Afobe with an open goal to aim at.

Butland punched the ground in frustration after watching the ball hit the back of his net. What one earth was he thinking? Put your foot through it!
