Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery set to buy historic Spanish football club

According to AS former Arsenal manager Unai Emery is in the process of purchasing one of Spain’s most historic football clubs.

AS say that Emery’s lawyer Josu Reta is the man handling the negotiations with club president Ricardo García as the 49-year-old hopes to secure ownership of Real Unión de Irún.

Real Unión de Irún may not be a club you are too familiar with but the club holds a very significant place in the origins of Spanish league football.

The club is based in the Basque town of Irún and they are currently competing in Segunda B – the regionalised third tier of Spanish football.

Irún’s significance come in the way of them being one of the founding 10 members of top-division football in Spain.

Mikel Jauregi, who worked with Emery at Sevilla, PSG and Arsenal is also part of the negotiations according to the report.

The Villarreal boss has long-standing family ties to the region and the club as both Emery’s father and grandfather played as goalkeepers for Real Unión de Irún.
