The Irish Examiner are reporting that the Oireachtas Finance Committee will formally agree on Tuesday to invite AIB to explain its debt write-off policies after details emerged of a deal that let hurling legend DJ Carey escape 99.4% of his €9.5m debts.
Committee chair John McGuinness has confirmed members will formally invite AIB to appear before TDs and senators to discuss general issues around debt write-downs and the formula the bank applies to each case.

Heading down to @AIBIreland in the morning to apply for my pint loan under the DJ Carey terms and conditions
I estimate 1.5 million pints will be consumed with spare change to fly to Mars over the next 20 years #IrelandForAll #GAABelong 🇨🇮👍 pic.twitter.com/5FY60ohwnW

DJ Carey got the sort of bailout reserved for Irish Times subscribers & letter writers.
But as DJ is not part of the golden circle, media are indignant. He’s not Garrett Fitzgerald. Or even one of Denis O’Briens pals!
Who does DJ think he is! A lauded but corrupt FFG crony!!

It’s going to be very interesting how this whole thing plays out.. The whole country is watching it very closely. It’s complete unfair what happened and a lot of people in Ireland are extremely angry about this and rightfully so..
