The former Clare goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald was in the running for the Galway job during the week, but instead it’s gone to Kilkenny’s Henry Shefflin. Shefflin is one of the greatest hurlers to ever play the game and now he will give a go at management at Inter county level.

I’m sure Davy Fitzgerald will get another job in hurling and at the moment he’s gearing up for another season of Ireland’s fittest family as he explained on The Late Late Show on Friday night. The former Wexford manager did wish Henry Shefflin all the best in his new role as head boss of the Galway hurlers.

It’s an exciting appointment Henry Shefflin as the Galway manager, the former ten time All-Ireland winner had some great success with his club Ballyhale Shamrocks and now it’s time for the big step up to inter-county management. Will the former cat be a success with the Tribesmen and will he manage to pull Joe Canning back out of retirement? Time will tell…
