Former Cork goalkeeper Donal Óg Cusack has given his support to the Clare manager following their at the weekend.

The Sunday Game pundit believes the banner are going in the right direction and leapt to the defence of Fitzgerald when the issue was raised by anchor Des Cahill.

“Clare are just lacking that killer instinct but are going in the right direction. I would back Davy Fitzgerald to turn things around and be a success again.”

Kilkenny great Eddie Brennan was sympathetic to the plight of Fitzgerald but feels the pressure will only increase going forward.

“There is no doubt that the pressure is going to come from the hurling people of Clare. Has the model for success worked under Davy?”

Fitzgerald still has two years to run on his current contract but he has endured a challenging year which included relegation from Division 1.

With so much success at U21 level in recent seasons there is an expectation within the county but Fitzgerald remained update following the three point defeat.

“The day I feel I’m not up to it there’ll be no fear; I’m not here for the next 10 years. As long as I feel I have something to offer, then I am more than delighted to do that.
