Chelsea set to lose out on transfer due to sanctions – even AFTER sale was completed

Chelsea’s sale has FINALLY gone through, but the Blues appear set to miss out on a key signing as a consequence of the sanctions.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, the UK government made the decision to place sanctions upon Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich which have essentially crippled the football club for the best part of three months.

As a result, with funds frozen and the club having their hands tied behind their backs, Chelsea have been unable to do any definitive preparation for what could be a hugely significant summer transfer window.

Chelsea have already suffered as a result. The Blues were understood to be on the verge of completing a deal for Edouard Mendy’s eventual successor – but he has now appeared on the radar of Real Madrid, which is bad news.

Thibaut Courtois is not going anywhere in a hurry, but very few players turn down a move to Real Madrid, especially early in their careers. You wonder how many more potential targets Chelsea will have lost in this period of forced inactivity…
