Chelsea might not have missed out on signing Jules Kounde after all… with the defender potentially leaving Barcelona for FREE!
Chelsea fans will have been convinced that they had secured the services of Kounde after news broke that a fee had been agreed with Sevilla for his transfer.
However, in the space of around 12 hours, Barcelona had successfully hijacked the deal and Kounde subsequently signed along the dotted line with them instead.
Still, though, with La Liga having begun, Barcelona have been unsuccessful in their attempts to register Kounde… who could now leave the club on a free.
As is reported by The Sun, a clause in Kounde’s contract would allow him to leave the Nou Camp already if he is not registered by the end of the summer transfer window.
In this remarkably bizarre circumstance, Chelsea would be able to sign a player who moved for €60m for absolutely nothing, were Kounde to become a free agent.
It seems far-fetched at this point, but nobody really knows what’s going on at Barcelona right now. Chelsea will be ready and waiting, no doubt…
